The Magic of Horses

Have you ever looked at a horse and been like “they are so majestic”?  Or as a little girl you dreamed and asked for a pony for a birthday?  I did that I always have loved these animals.  As my mom always told me “I was born on a horse”.  That is true.  My mom was riding and showing horses when she was pregnant with me.  Right up till she had me.  Then I was a couple months old, and I was sitting on a horse’s back with my dad’s help obviously.  But it all began at a very young age this love and connection with horses.  The Magic they bring.

Horses have always been something in my life that I have felt brought magic into it.  If you haven’t been around these horses you may not realize that they are the best emotional support animals out there. Yup, when you have a tough day, spending time with a horse will always make the day better.

They are great for understanding how you feel, and they are so sensitive to your emptions.  When you have that connection with a horse, a partnership, you know how each other is feeling.  Showing horses has always created such a bond with them.  I know when we may be doing good or bad in a class based on either my mental state that day or if they are just over it.

When looking at the horse and watching their movement you can see why throughout history, they have always been seen has majestic.  When you watch a horse canter across the pasture you see this amazing creature in motion and know that they are greatness.  Their movements are fluid and smooth. I love riding horses and connecting with a 1200 pound animal knowing if they really wanted to they could end my life.  You have this adrenaline rush every time you ride them knowing that it is only going to be magical.  Practicing for a horse show, doing patterns it is all magical because you are working as a team with one of the most amazing animals in the world.

However, horses are these large and strong animals, but did you know they are also some of the most fragile?  That is right!  I have the vet bills to show it. The way God made these animals was a little unfair.  Their stomachs just hang in their bodies and move as they move.  So when horse get a little to much protein going on in their stomach and colon they start to have an upset stomach and by rolling they can twist it, displace it, and end up in a vet hospital with life threatening symptom’s that need a very expensive surgery in order to survive.  For me I see it as a way to keep the magical animal humble.

Horses have always been my go to friend, therapist and just for a good laugh.  My horses all have some BIG personalities and I wouldn’t change any of them.  I love walking into the barn and never knowing what I may be walking in on.  I may have someone sick, but usually it is them talking to me, trying to pick on others over the top of stalls or just being silly.  It is my happy place and go to place.  I can sure think clearly when surrounded by my horses.

It wouldn’t be complete without giving you some of the examples of how horses are magical.  The magic of horses has captivated human beings for centuries, sparking wonder, inspiration, and a deep connection between humans and these majestic creatures. Here are 11 aspects that contribute to the enchantment of horses:
